Based on a side road partly underground, below an old Chinese restaurant, less than a three-minute walk away from Euston train station sits a small Malaysian restaurant which seats no more than at least 25 people. As its menu states it is not the prettiest restaurant nor is it in a flashy area but I guess that is what makes it so cosy and intimate. Its friendly kitchen and floor staff added on give it a positive and comfortable atmosphere, making this hole in the wall the perfect place to escape reality for a short time. On entry and whilst queuing up for the small yet busy restaurant you can watch the Roti being made right before you. I opted for the Roti Canai Special with Lamb Curry which came to the table in no more than 10 minutes. The curry alone was perfectly spicy with just enough kick to set off your taste buds but not too much as to have you rushing in search for a glass of milk. Served in a small bowl, there could have been a slightly larger serving of meat but the tenderness to which it was cooked at made up for it. The Roti, a flour-based flatbread, came with 2 servings and was soft and easy on the teeth, but combined with the curry brought on a great wave of flavour and had me craving more. Alongside the roti and curry, I had Beef in Spring Onion & Ginger with rice. The serving of beef could have included a bit more beef and less onion and additionally have been left in to soak in more flavour but overall that dish itself was okay. Based on both dishes I would rank Roti King 7/10 and on the restaurant itself a comfortable 8/10.

Top - Roti and Lamb Curry. Bottom - white rice and beef in spring onion and ginger
